Wellington Children's Hospital (also known as Wards 18 and 19) is the oldest and first dedicated Children's Hospital in New Zealand.
Opening on March 13th 1912 as the King Edward Memorial Hospital for Children, we will soon be celebrating its 100th year anniversary. There are more than 27,000 visits to Wellington Children's Hospital every year.
From premature, critically ill babies to young children and teenagers with everything from a broken arm to life-threatening illnesses such as Crohn's Disease, Cystic Fibrosis or Cancer.
These sick kids come from as far north as Gisborne, across to New Plymouth and south to Nelson and Marlborough to be treated at New Zealand's original Children's Hospital.
These young fighters, aged 0 - 16 years, sometimes spend weeks or even months away from families, friends and schools. The Doctors, Nurses, Play Therapists and Hospital Volunteers work extremely hard to make their stay a little brighter, a little faster, or less painful. YOU can be part of this very important work too. You can give a Fresh Future to our Sick Kids by supporting our Children's Hospital projects.
'Getting well takes more than medicine.'
