Wellington Children's Hospital

Thomas and the Redevelopment Programme

Every year there are over 23,000 visits to Wellington Children's Hospital from sick kids just like Thomas.  Help us make a difference to their stay.

Wellington Children's Hospital is about to undergo a major redevelopement and makeover.  We need your help to make our Children's Hospital a safe, child-friendly environment with state of the art medical equipment.

We need to raise $1.6 million so children just like Thomas can enjoy being a child during their hospital stay.  Money raised will go towards:

  • State of the art paediatric medical and surgical equipment to help hospital staff look after our kids.
  • A new playground in the new outpatient area that will have more than 18,000 visits each year.
  • New and upgraded toys, games, art materials, TVs and computers.
  • Chair beds so parents can sleep comfortable by their child's bedside.
  • The finishing touches such as wall paintings to provide a fun environment for our sick kids while they recover.

Your donation will make a real difference to thousands of children and their families while they're at Wellington Children's Hospital.

Please donate now to let children's imagination, like Thomas', play while they are in hospital.

THOMAS

Six year old Thomas has had a harder life than most young kids.  Born with a condition which has resulted in him needing several operations so far, Thomas has become a regular patient at Wellington Children's Hospital.  He even knows the Paediatric Surgeons by their first names.

We first meet Thomas in early 2008 when the Easter Bunny and Woolworths Johnsonville brought Easter treats in to Wellington Children's Hospital.  Thomas was in the hospital again a month later when The Dominion Post featured the Royal Doulton Tiles in Wellington Hospital.  He is such a bright, friendly boy that you can't help but smile around him.

Thomas says the worst thing about Wellington Hospital is that "it hurts and I just want to be better".  Making the trips less painful is the play specialist Megan, who always has lots of activities set out for young patients to do and best of all spends time with all the children.

When we asked Thomas what he thinks about Wellington Children's Hospital he said "they need more puzzles" he thinks, and things for Mum and Dad to do.  A bit more privacy in the hospital ward would be good too, "cos when Dad stays with me, he snores big snores".

Thomas and his family constantly amaze us with their continued support of Wellington Children's Hospital and the Redevelopment Appeal.  We could not do this without their support.  Thank you!
