The Foundation recently announced a special patient and family support programme for Cancer Kids at Wellington Children’s Hospital.
The Foundation has set aside an initial $100,000 to assist Sick Kids with cancer and their families, who have to travel to Auckland or Christchurch for complex cancer treatments under our new HOSPI CARE PROGRAMME!
Capital & Coast District Health Board recently announced that Wellington’s Child Cancer Unit had been downgraded until at least the end of 2010 requiring families of complex cancer patients, or new patients from the lower north island, to travel to Auckland or Christchurch for first stage treatment.
The Foundation will work with Capital & Coast to minimise any difficulties for families who have to travel. The Foundation has received wonderful support from so many people wanting to help all patients at Wellington Children’s Hospital said Mr Day.
“Hospi” is our Hospital Lion mascot and he has been a great hit with young children and adults alike.
Our “Hospi Care” programme for Wellington Children’s Hospital and in particular the Child Cancer Unit will let us help those families who have to travel to Auckland or Christchurch for treatment.
This programme will embrace a patient’s whole family and we will work with the Capital & Coast District Health Board together to ensure that patients and families get the best support we can possibly provide.
Funding for the “Hospi Care” programme has come from general fundraising and a portion of funds from this year’s Fresh Future Appeal for Sick Kids which is run through all Woolworths, Countdown, SuperValue and Fresh Choice Supermarkets will be set aside for this “Hospi Care” programme.
