Fresh Future gives $125,000 to Wellington Children's Hospital

11 November 2008

Peter Smith, Managing Director of Progressive Enterprises has today presented a $125,000 cheque for Wellington Children's Hospital.  The proceeds have come from the nationwide Fresh Future campaign, supoorted by New Zealanders throughout the country.

The Fresh Future campaign is held annually by Progressive Enterprises (Foodtown, Countdown, Woolworths, Fresh Choice and Super Value) and this year also enjoyed support from Dick Smith Electronics.  The campaign is run nationwide for 8 weeks throughout the supermarkets listed above.  Money is raised through the sale of raffle tickets and staff run fundraises such as carwashes and sausage sizzles.

This year the funds were distributed between 10 Children's Hospitals throughout New Zealand and on Tuesday 11th of November, Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation received a cheque for $125,000 on behalf of Wellington Children's Hospital.  This, combined with the 2007 donation, will be used to build a Fresh Future Acute Assessment Unit for our Sick Kids at Wellington Hospital.  This unit is a space where children can be observed in a child-friendly environment rather than the Emergency Department.  From here, staff can decide whether a child should be admitted to a Ward, Short Stay Unit or if they are well enough to go home.

Thank you very much to Progressive Enterprises for making such a brilliant commitment to our nation's children!
