Ahead of the big game tomorrow, 8 All Blacks popped into Wellington Children's Hospital much to the delight of patients, families and staff.
21 exquisite photos of Wellington scenes, taken by leading New Zealand photographer Simon Woolf and printed on photo paper sponsored by Epson, have been installed in the Photography by Woolf Gallery, in the newly refurbished Professional Development Unit, on Level L of Ward Support Block in Wellington Hospital. Limited Edition signed and framed prints of the images are available for purchase through the Foundation with proceeds going toward Wellington Children’s Hospital. “Simon’s timing was impeccable” says Liz Maddison, Project Director for the construction and refurbishment at Wellington Hospital. “I was searching for something bright and beautiful to hang on the bare walls and when I heard of Simon’s donation I knew exactly where I wanted them to go” The Gallery was officially opened on Tuesday night at a small function hosted by Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation. The opening was an intimate affair attended by the Woolf family, Photography by Woolf staff and the Photographic Society. All of the wine for the event was sponsored by Co-Pilot Distributors and delicious cupcakes were custom made and donated by cupcake specialists Tempt, based in Old Bank Arcade.
After providing 80 years of continuous voluntary service to Wellington Hospital's medical wards and neonatal units the Wellington Hospital's Ladies Auxillary have closed their doors as an organisation and have asked the Foundation to administer the areas of Hospital Library for patients, Knitting and Quilting for the special babies in the Neo-Natal Unit.
Many of the wonderful volunteers will continue with the service and the Foundation is looking to recruit additional volunteers who have great knitting and quilting skills.
If you would like to become a member of the Foundation's Knitters, Sewers and Quilters Group please contact Trish Lee on (04) 918 5710.
